A small and characterful Speyside Single Malt Scotch whisky distillery established in Forres in 1898, and the smallest distillery in the Speyside region, producing just 700,000 litres of spirit per year. After years of closure, Benromach was acquired in 1993 by the independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail — one of the most respected names in the whisky trade — who restored it to working condition and distilled the first new spirit in 1998. Benromach is notable for its commitment to producing a lightly peated Speyside malt — a style that was more common historically than today — matured exclusively in first-fill sherry and Bourbon casks, resulting in a rich, complex, and slightly smoky character that is genuinely distinctive within the Speyside canon.
