A pioneering Japanese Whisky distillery established in Miyada, Nagano Prefecture in the Central Alps of Japan — at an altitude of 798 metres, one of the highest whisky distilleries in the country — where the cool mountain air and pure water from the surrounding alps create ideal conditions for slow, gentle maturation. Mars Whisky — operated by Hombo Shuzo, a company with distilling roots going back to 1909 — produces a range of single malt and blended Japanese whiskies that have attracted growing international attention, particularly the Mars Maltage Cosmo and the limited Mars Shinshu single malt expressions. The distillery also operates a second facility at Tsunuki in Kagoshima Prefecture, allowing for dramatic contrasts in climate and resulting whisky character.
