A large and historically significant Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky distillery situated in the village of Tomatin in Inverness-shire, established in 1897 at the highest point of the A9 road and once the largest whisky distillery in Scotland when operating at full capacity with 23 stills. Tomatin produces a characteristically light, fruity, and mellow Highland style of single malt, with its core range matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and finished in sherry, port, and wine casks for additional complexity. The distillery is owned by two Japanese companies — Takara Shuzo and Okara — making it one of the first Scottish distilleries to pass into Japanese ownership, a relationship that has brought both investment and a new generation of admirers in the Asian whisky market.
